Seward Days 2 and 3

We really enjoyed Seward, and I took over 400 pictures during the past 3 days. I took a couple of days off from writing my blog, and this will have to be an abbreviated report of those days or everyone would be bored, and I’d be up past dark (days are still almost 24 hours long!).

On Friday, most of our group took the Kenai Fjords National Park Wildlife and Glacier Cruise. The weather was almost perfect (in the midst of gloomy, rainy days), the seas were very calm and we enjoyed a beautiful day. Here are a few choices from over 260 pictures from that day.

Lunch was good. Prime rib and salmon, salad, rice pilaf. All you can eat. Dessert later.

Up close, here’s the ‘before.’

When pieces of glaciers break off, it’s called ‘calving.’ We waited a long time to see the piece on the upper left break off, as we knew it would.

Here’s the ‘after.’ I wasn’t quick enough on the camera to capture the falling ice, but you can see that the opening is larger.

Although it was a good trip, it was also a long day.

After dessert, “Glacier ‘Ritas” were available for $4. The ice was from a bit of glacier that was retrieved by the crew.

Seating was tight when we were at our assigned tables, 6 per booth. Most of the day we were walking around the boat, going in and out and to the upper deck seeing the sights. But when we ate, and had our ‘Ritas, we were cozy. But happy!

On Saturday, we toured the Alaska SeaLife Center Aquarium and Marine Science Facility. This rivals the Monterey Bay Aquarium and was a very interesting place to explore.

I was pleased that my new camera did pretty well with some of the wildlife.

Last night, we enjoyed a campfire on the beach overlooking Resurrection Bay. Dennis and Carol brought ingredients for ‘Smores. It’s tricky to roast the marshmallows without burning them.

Then you have to put them together with the chocolate between two graham crackers and ‘smush’ it down.

Then get it in your mouth.

Don had a non-chocolate, non-marshmallow version.

Claudette had her very first ‘Smore! I think she liked it.

Dennis teased Shadow, who really wanted a bite.

Shadow actually grabbed a small bite from Jean’s! It’s not nice to tease a puppy!

And Shadow helped Dennis clean off his face.

We all enjoyed the warmth from the fire.

Today, Sunday 6/26, we drove from Seward to Anchorage and are parked at Ft. Richardson Black Spruce Travel Camp again. We were able to sponsor Jean and Claudette into a full hookup site across from us.

Don and I washed our car, since we had some rain during the day and it was so dirty we couldn’t see out the windows.

We enjoyed happy hour together along with the sunshine.
